Bart Starr, Jr. will be present as a keynote speaker during the Rawhide portion of the program leading up to the Chalk Talk. In addition, a Rawhide alumnus will speak and share about the impact Rawhide had on him and the tremendous change he experienced while at Rawhide.

Event Lineup

A portion of the program will be devoted to the positive influence that Bart Starr, Sr. continues to have on the growth and success of Rawhide Boys Ranch. John and Jan Gillespie, Rawhide Founders will be present to share how instrumental Bart and Cherry Starr were to the very existence of Rawhide. Following this program Steve Young will be introduced and share insights with those in attendance about his career as Quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers and opposing Packer greats such as Brett Favre while playing at Lambeau Field.

Bart and Cherry Starr’s Commitment

Bart and Cherry Starr have demonstrated unparalleled commitment to Rawhide through hosting telethons in the 70s, attending numerous special events and visits to promote and sustain Rawhide since 1965. What started as one boys home on over 700 acres in 1965 is today a full campus of seven boys’ homes, a fully accredited high school called Starr Academy, numerous work experience programs for at risk teenage youth that come to live at Rawhide for periods of three months up to two  years. In addition, Rawhide offers numerous prevention-based programs such as Adventure-based summer camps, outpatient counseling at five locations across Wisconsin and Intensive Family Weekend Training.

The impact that Bart and Cherry Starr have had on Rawhide is priceless and would include visiting with and encouraging youth on the ranch over the years, providing access to events for the youth to attend such as the NFL Alumni golf outing where youth caddy for former NFL players, and, of course, serving as spokespersons for Rawhide in support of the organization.

Furthermore, Bart Starr has signed and personalized cherished items for Packer fans for several decades until recently when he suffered his most recent health challenge. The proceeds from the small donation he asks be made to Rawhide in exchange for his signature, support the Bret Starr Memorial Fund which assists Rawhide youth in their transition needs as they go home. Rawhide alumni experience a lifetime commitment from their second home at Rawhide to help in times of crisis or need. Alumni can turn to Rawhide for emergency cash assistance, rent or utility assistance and tuition assistance to go college or technical school thanks to Bart Starr’s generosity and countless hours signing memorabilia.

Rawhide is indebted to Bart and Cherry Starr and this past May unveiled the Bart and Cherry Starr Museum as a tribute to the incredible legacy they have among Rawhide youth, staff and Packer fans everywhere. If you are in the area please feel free to come to Rawhide and see it firsthand Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.
