Many classic cars have been donated to Rawhide Boys Ranch during our vehicle donation program’s 30+ year history. When a classic car donation arrives at the ranch, employees and students alike wander over to gaze upon the design elements that made it so “awesome.” We have been fortunate to receive incredible classic car donations, which have funded many of our programs for at-risk youth. These donations have fueled a greater interest in other classic cars as well. So we did some research and found these beauties, deemed some of the most sought-after collectible cars.

1. 1991 Acura NSX Coupe

Also known as the Honda NSX, the 1991 Acura NSX Coupe featured an ultra-light chassis and boasted the world’s first production car engine with titanium connecting rods, forged pistons, and incredible revving capabilities.

2. 1967 Datsun 2000 Convertible

Offered as a bargain sports car, the Datsun 2000 offered an impressive top speed of 108 mph and the capability of getting over 30 mpg, an impressive feat for a vehicle in the ‘60s.

3. 1973 Datsun 240z

The Datsun 240z delivered incredible performance and handling for the price of $5,000 in 1973 (equivalent to $27,000 in 2015). The Z car offered one of the first reliable Japanese cars, changing the way the public viewed Japanese brands. The 1973 240z even won the 21st East African Safari Rally .

4. 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Spyder

A very rare vehicle, the 1995 Mitsubishi Spyder VR4 was the first hardtop convertible released in the United States since the Ford Fairlane Skyliner.

5. 1984 Ferrari Testarossa Coupe

Fast and agile, the 1984 Ferrari Testarossa was the most-produced Ferrari model despite its high price of $181,000. Its popularity led to it being featured on the cover of Road & Track magazine nine times in five years.

6. 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo 930

One of the most successful competition cars, the Porsche 911 offered a balance of style and speed at an initial price tag of $65,000 (equivalent to $125,700 today). It earned a significant amount of awards and titles during its debut year.

7. 1993 Porsche 928 GTS Coupe

The 928 was created to replace the 911 model. The Porsche 928 offered sports car handling with the comfort and equipment of a luxury sedan. Only 406 of these made it to the USA.

8. 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster

The Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster featured all the style and engineering of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with less of the price. Fewer than 26,000 were made between 1955 and 1963, making this an uncommon vehicle to find and a significant one to collect.

9. 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Convertible

Around 7,000 Sunbeam Tigers were built between 1964 and 1967, offering a high-performance V-8 engine and a compact, dynamic body. Production ended in 1967 soon after Chrysler took over manufacturing the car. There are few surviving cars in standard form.

10. 1988 BMW E30 M3 Coupe

Only one car has earned more titles and awards than the Porsche 911, and that’s the BMW M3. It is the most successful touring and grand touring car to ever race.

11. 1985 Monte Carlo SS

The T-top was reintroduced for this model. The ’85 Monte Carlo featured more power, additional colors, and 120,000 eager customers that couldn’t wait to buy this sharp ride.

12. 1991 Chevy C1500 SS 454

One of the first true “muscle trucks,” the SS 454 featured a V-8 engine, superb performance, agile handling, and a luxurious interior.

13. 1993 Ford SVT Lightning

The Ford Lightening promised the power of a Ford Mustang but with space for hauling items. It lived up to its name and offered an incredibly fast and enjoyable ride.

14. 1996 Chevy Impala SS

The LT1 V-8 engine is the heart of the 1996 Chevy Impala SS, which pumped 260 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque through a column-shifted 4L60 transmission. This sport sedan also had a twin-turbo dealer option which produced 588 horsepower offering a smooth and fast ride.

15. 1973 Pontiac GTO

Another muscle car with poor sales due to an emerging energy crisis, the 1973 Pontiac GTO offered a 400-cu.in. engine that kicked out 230 horsepower and a sporty look

16. 2006 Pontiac GTO

The last of the GTO series, the 2006 Pontiac was equipped with 400 horsepower and a stylish design.

17. 1977 “Smokey and the Bandit” Pontiac Trans Am

Made famous by the classic movie “Smokey and the Bandit,” these muscle cars have been selling for over $50,000 in recent years. In 2014, Burt Reynolds sold the official 1977 Trans Am from the movie for $450,000.

18. 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am

One of the rarest Pontiacs ever made, only 1,555 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am were produced. The Trans Am utilized a Buick 3.8L turbo V-6 to combine lightweight design with power and handling. Reportedly, this car redefined the term “high performance” with top speeds exceeding 150 mph. It was the first unmodified car to pace the Indianapolis 500 in 1989.

19. 1993 Cadillac Allante Northstar

Initially a sales flop due to a $55,000 cost, the 1993 Allante featured a new computerized suspension system and world class standards across the board. It was one of the truly unique vehicles General Motors produced.

20. 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado

The Toronado featured a heavy-duty Turbo-Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission, four-barrel carburetor, draft-free ventilation, and a Super Rocket V-8 engine.

21. 1987 Buick Grand National GNX

With a 0-60 time of less than 6.0 seconds, this 1987 Buick Grand National GNX put Corvettes to shame. Because only 500 were ever built, this car is a rare collector’s item. Its Turbo-charged engine and boxy styling make it the icon of America’s performance cars of the 1980s.

22. 1990-2001 Lamborghini Diablo

This version of the Lamborghini was the first Lamborghini capable of attaining a top speed of over 200 miles per hour. Its futuristic styling, V-12 engine, 492 horse-powered engine, and super-charged performance made it a favorite among car enthusiasts worldwide.

23. 1975-1985 Ferrari 308 GTB

As a V-8 mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, you might remember this Ferrari most from its time on Magnum P.I. There’s no guarantee it will help you grow a better mustache though.

24. 1971-1992 De Tomaso Pantera

Around 5,500 De Tomaso Panteras were sold in the United States during the company’s life span. The GT5 is even more rare as only 252 were estimated to have been built.

25. 1975-1996 Jaguar XJS

Launched in the wake of a fuel crisis, Jaguar sales were initially slow. Once customers discovered the roomy interior and graceful yet powerful engine, sales picked up and the Jaguar XJS became a hot commodity.

26. 1970-71 Ford Torino GT

Most Torinos were conventional cars. However, Ford produced some high-performance versions with 428 Cobra-Jet engines, which transformed it into a “muscle car.” This powerful engine put the Torino in many winning circles in NASCAR other race series.

27. 1971 AMC Hornet SC/360

The SC Hornet featured 0 to 60 in 6.7 seconds, a great suspension, big tires, and a good size. As Motor Trend Magazine described it: “It handles like a dream.”

28. 1971-75 Ford Maverick Grabber

A special edition Ford Maverick, the Grabber included a spoiler and came with a special “Dual Dome” hood. The Grabber also featured a V-8 engine and 210 horsepower.

29. 1974 Dodge Dart Sport 360

The Dodge Dart Sport had 200 horsepower with a V-8 under the hood and could reach 121 mph, which was impressive during the time. Its sedate sedan design camouflaged the powerhouse under the hood.

30. 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 WS6

With 220 horsepower and a true Pontiac 400 V-8, the 1979 Firebird coupled power with impressive handling. There were only 24,851 made in 1979, yet very few featured the 400 engine.

31. 1985-90 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

The IROC-Z featured 215 horsepower and 5.0 liter V-8 engine. Combine that power with a gorgeous body and it’s no wonder kids who grew up idolizing it in the ‘80s are buying them up now.
