Equine Assisted Program or REAP

Rawhide Equine Assisted Program better known as R.E.A.P., is an innovative counseling approach that teamsĀ  your son with a horse to work together through therapeutic activities.

Benefits of Horse Assisted Therapy

These horse assisted therapy activities help them work on issues such as:

  1. Anger management
  2. Thinking errors
  3. Alcohol and substance abuse
  4. Relationship building
  5. Boundaries

For example, your son may learn how to guide a horse through an obstacle course. This requires:

  1. Listening
  2. Concentration
  3. Patience

By successfully completing the horse assisted therapy activity, your son will build confidence in overcoming obstacles in his own life. Benefits of the program include:

  1. Learning about oneself
  2. Building strengths
  3. Working on weaknesses

Students also learn how to care for the horses by cleaning and feeding them as part of the Work Experience Program. They learn transferable skills like accountability, punctuality, and following directions.

Students have the opportunity to work with the horses as part of their individual, group or family sessions. Family sessions provide an opportunity for you and your son to learn more about how you interact as a family. A Rawhide social worker is directly involved in all sessions.
