Unique Therapeutic Education

Rawhide’s private school (middle and high school), Starr Academy, was established in 1980 and continues the legacy of Green Bay Packer and NFL great Bart Starr and his wife, Cherry, by providing strong academic instruction.

The core classes offered are Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. We also offer Individual Education Plans instruction and Title I Reading and Math for students who need help in these areas.

An important factor in considering Rawhide as a choice school is the experience we have in working with challenging male students who are often struggling at home and in their school community.

Smaller Class Sizes and Individualized Education

If your son has poor study habits, he may be struggling with reading, writing or math. When students come to Rawhide, most are four or more years below the reading level they should be and have not developed consistent study or homework habits. Without these basic skills, they are simply not motivated to try when it comes to school.

As part of our initial assessment process, your son will take a pre-test to determine his educational skill levels. Then, we will help him set specific goals for his education.

Class sizes are small so your son will get the individual attention he needs to make progress in reaching his educational goals.

Many students make dramatic improvements in academics, and the teaching staff work hard to help them achieve their academic objectives. Students also gain confidence and find hope in a brighter future where school and learning are no longer impossible feats, but have become the means of achieving their goals.

Eligibility

At this time, Rawhide’s Starr Academy choice school offers only 10th grade instruction for students that qualify for Milwaukee Parent Choice program. (Only 12 openings available). Please review our non-discrimination policy.

One goal of the choice school is to provide students with all the skills they need to facilitate a successful transition to a community high school of your choice upon the successful completion of a full academic year.
