Private Residential Program

Zach & Mom at Starr Academy GraduationIf you are the parent of a teenage boy who is on the brink of getting into trouble with the law or is struggling in school, the Private Residential Program may be just what you are looking for. The Private Residential Program gives at-risk young men a chance to voluntarily choose a new direction in life. Young men live in a family setting full time on the Rawhide campus and attend school at Starr Academy. Weekends are reserved for recreational activities, homework, family visits and community service opportunities.

This residential therapeutic education program is designed for troubled teenage boys who are currently not on record in the court system. One of the desired outcomes of the program is to get your son on track to graduate from middle or high school. His program starts with caring staff who teach the timeless values of a responsible and successful life at home, in school, and on the job. Harmful behaviors and attitudes are addressed with trained therapists during individual, group, and family counseling.

During your son's stay at Rawhide we welcome and encourage parent contact including regular visits, planned home visits, family therapy, phone calls, and letters.

Benefits of the Academy Program

Starr Academy is a registered private school with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The staff focuses on getting to know each student and creating an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Education is reinforced by a maximum student to teacher ratio of 10-to-1 in core subjects, individual instruction through Title One reading and math, work experience training, interscholastic sports, and a host of electives.

While the cost of placing your son in the Private Residential Program is not subsidized by your county or the state and must be funded by each family, tuition assistance is available to eligible families. There are also other financial resources you should explore to help offset the cost of placing your son with Rawhide. Program fees includes tuition, counseling, work experience training, residential care, room and board, and many recreational activities.
