"Memories of Freedom" Print |
On Christmas Eve 1999, the barn at Rawhide Boys Ranch burned to the ground, taking the lives of four of the boys' favorite horses: Katie, Babe, Tuffy, and Flaxey. It was a sad Christmas for the guys and staff.
Maya Valeyeva, an artist from Kazan, Russia, painted this mural for Rawhide in memory of the lost horses.
In Russia, Maya is an accomplished author of children's books about relationships between mankind and animals. She travels throughout Russia painting murals for parks and nature preserves. She also has done other art projects in the United States.
Maya became acquainted with Rawhide while painting a mural at Muraviovka Park, a 13,000-acre nature preserve, located in the Amur Region of Russia's far east, the site where Rawhide is involved with children from Krestovozdvezhenka Orphanage who attend summer camps.
