Student of the Month - October 2009 |
Rawhide Staff Members are Awesome | My name is Alex, and I am 17 years old. I am from Brown County and have been at Rawhide for two months. I think it’s fun to get a bunch of people together and do all kinds of activities like Frisbee golf and football. I also enjoy having cookouts and campfires with the other guys at Rawhide. It’s interesting learning about history with Coach Andy (academic instructor) and expressing myself in art with Mr. Riley (academic instructor). The About Face job trainers, Mr. CJ (academic instructor), Mr. Gary (resident instructor), and Coach Andy are some of the people who really push me physically to do my best.
Some of my goals are to graduate from high school with good grades and go to college. When I go home I plan to join a Christian youth group and stay out of trouble by separating myself from negative influences. I want to become a social worker or counselor, or possibly look into a law enforcement career through technical college. My hope is to one day have a nice family and be able to support them.
I didn’t know what to expect when I came to Rawhide. It wasn’t long before I got the hang of it. The About Face staff frustrated me at first with all the directions, but I soon realized they were just trying to teach us how to follow instructions. Respect for others, character, and self-discipline are just some of the things that Rawhide has taught me. By complying and following the program, I learned that there are some exciting rewards. Major Tews, along with other staff, showed me that I could openly share my problems with them. The staff presses me to do better physically and mentally in the programs at Rawhide. About Face is a great program.
