Student of the Month - May 2009 |
You Only Live Once, So Live Strong | My name is Luke, and I'm 17 years old. I'm from Barron County and have been at Rawhide for three months. My favorite things to do include playing baseball and basketball, hanging out with friends, running track, and playing video games. I really enjoy the games we play in gym class. I hope to go to a community or technical college after high school. My goals are to change my life and get a good job.
There have been a lot of factors to my success at Rawhide. A big part of it is due to my parents. It was their decision to send me to Rawhide, and without them I wouldn't be doing as well as I am. They have been very supportive of me. My houseparents, Ed and Patti Dedmon, have had a big impact on me too. They are always encouraging me to increase in rank, as well as stay away from negative influences in and out of the house. It is always good to have advice and someone to talk to. Waking up at 6:10 a.m. for physical training is helping me. It has helped to get me in shape and become confident in myself.
A couple months ago we went to Silver Birch Ranch. That was the first time I was serious about anything. I gave my life to the Lord there, and my attitude has changed a lot. Since then things have been going much smoother at Rawhide and with my parents.
Another step to my success is the job training I get at Rawhide. Being with a lot of good role models like About Face Program field trainers, Major Schmoll, Captain Guerin, and Captain Melton has turned me into a hard worker. They have also shown me that it feels good to work hard for money, instead of stealing it. I'm happy with how well I have been doing and plan to continue doing well. |
