Student of the Month - March 2009 |
You Get What You Give |  My name is Shawn, and I am 14 years old. I am from Ozaukee County and have been at Rawhide for eight months. My favorite things to do include playing football and basketball and lifting weights. I really enjoy social studies class with Andy Schroeder and working at the café with Jeff See, Lori Gorges, and Theresa Hamilton. I also like participating in Building Spiritual Muscle with my mentor, Steve Noll. I hope to attend UW-Madison and earn a master’s degree in business management. My personal goals are to graduate from college, start a family (be a good husband and father), and own a landscaping business.
One of the biggest factors in my success here at Rawhide since day one is attributed to the fact that even when the staff didn’t know my situation or what I did to come here, they still poured out all the love they could and cared even though there were obvious flaws in my flesh. I especially want to thank my job training crew at the Café (Jeff, Lori, and Theresa), my resident instructor, Ben Schmidt, and my mentor, Steve, who showed unconditional love for me and others and are there whenever we need them.
Another thing that really helped my success here was my social worker, Teresa Harn. When I first got here, I had a big manipulating problem, but she caught me every time. I am glad she did because otherwise I would still be manipulating others and would end up getting back into the same kind of mess after I leave Rawhide.
I just want to thank Rawhide for everything they have given me.
