Student of the Month - June 2009 |
My Rawhide Experience |  My name is Adam, and I am 15 years old. I'm from Oneida County and have been at Rawhide for three months. My favorite things to do include listening to music, playing video games, spending time with my family, and praying. I really enjoy art class; not only is it fun because Mr. Riley is a fun teacher, but it is also fun to be creative. One of my goals is to always hold God before myself and give Him all the glory. I also want to be a good father, attend college, and maybe become a pastor, counselor, or social worker so I can help others.
All of the staff at Rawhide have helped me tremendously. Teresa Harn (Rawhide social worker) has helped by showing me I am worth something. She also helped me have courage to face my fears. Matt Totten (resident instructor) has helped by giving me hope and helping me feel welcomed, as well as giving me someone I can relate to and trust. Mr. Marv and Ms. Julie Smith (houseparents) discipline me when needed, which is pretty rare, but when they do, they make sure I know it is to show me a better way, not because they are angry with me. They show they care about me, and I want them to know I really appreciate that.
My family has also been a tremendous help and support. My mom has really supported me, and I am finding out that she is an amazing person. She is extremely sure of herself as a person of worth. My dad has had his challenges, but I know he loves me and that he cares, which means a lot. My stepdad has shown me that he is not trying to replace my dad, but rather be a positive adult male influence. My brother has been going through some issues at the same time I have, but he loves me too, and that's what matters.
The biggest influence for me has been God. Without Him, I never would have gotten to where I am. He deserves all the glory, and He has my praise.
