Student of the Month - January 2010 |
Inspiring Change | My name is John, and I am 16 years old. I’m from Oneida County and have been at Rawhide for eight months. My favorite things to do include reading, writing fiction stories, swimming, playing video games, and watching movies. I really enjoy English class because it is the only class where I can let my brain really work. I hope to attend law school to become a lawyer. My goals are to be happy with myself, enjoy life to the fullest, and to have a more Christ-like attitude.
To be honest, I would not be where I am now if not for the encouraging words of my teachers, house staff, and peers. The two key people to thank are Coach Andy Schroeder (academic instructor) and Hart Olson (resident instructor). Coach Andy encouraged me through every time, especially the hard times. The times I felt like I would break, Coach Andy was there to lift me up. He gave the lift needed to succeed and acheive the rank of Wrangler. Hart inspired me to have fun and bring back my humor. He also taught me to care for myself more than I did before.
My peers have also inspired me. Isaac taught me to express myself without worrying about others’ comments. James taught me to express myself to people more openly. He has shown me how to get through angry moments by laughing them off. Kyler taught me to not express myself negatively when I am mad. Todd is the person who has stuck with me. He has shown me that a true friend is one who stays friends no matter what.
If not for all the lessons learned from these people, learning from their positive or negative behaviors, I would not be where I am today. If not for these people, I would not be inspired to change.
