A New Road

My name is Josh and I am 16 years old. I’m from Fond du Lac County and have been at Rawhide for two months. My favorite things to do are playing golf and disc golf with my friends.

I really enjoy attending school. The teachers at Starr Academy are all awesome in their own way of working with us. After I graduate from high school, I’d like to join the military and later train to be a pediatric nurse. I really want to help sick children feel better.

The most important factor for my success at Rawhide is the growth in my relationship with Jesus Christ. Upon arrival, I was unsure if I was going to take my faith in a new direction. It wasn’t long after I felt the love of Jesus and asked my social worker, John, to help me grow in my faith. It was much simpler than I thought it would be.

Since I have accepted Christ I feel happier and more accepting of my peers. I really want to help others in any way possible. I didn’t realize what an amazing feeling it would be.

I often find myself in tough situations that will tempt me to draw away from my faith. When that happens, I bring it to the Lord and my living unit staff. Pat, a residential instructor in the Gillespie House, is great support to me. When I start to veer from my path, Pat always knows the right thing to say to get me back on the right road.
