Student of the Month - February 2009 |
Living to Die, But Dying to Live | My name is Raul and I’m 15 years old. I am from Sheboygan County and have been at Rawhide for three months. Some favorite things I enjoy doing are going to the park with all of my friends and playing football. Something else I enjoy is going shopping with family for things that I like and need. One more thing I love to do is lift weights, because it really gets me not only physically fit but mentally stronger. Some guys at Rawhide have set goals for themselves and have not proceeded with them. Well, I’m the type of person that if I say I’m going to do something, my mentality is going to be set on it and I’m going to do it!
An amazing thing that really means a lot to me about Rawhide and the school is that they actually do care a lot about us. Two of my teachers whom I really admire are Mrs. Natalie Sarazin, because I can talk to her for hours and not get bored, and Coach Andy (Mr. Schroeder) because every day he puts himself in my shoes and truly understands. They are always there, no matter what, ready to listen, care, and help.
There are a couple of goals that I will, indeed, accomplish. First, I will graduate from high school and work through many of my problems. Second, a huge goal I have set for myself is to serve in the military and follow all of the discipline and structure I will receive.
You are probably still wondering what message my title is trying to convey about me. I say “living to die” because, at one point, we are all going to be gone. But I state “dying to live” because so many of us do it every day by trying to be or do something that we are not––while inside we know it is killing us because that is not who we truly are.
At this point, I’m a little ways along on my journey with Christ, but I really take that stuff seriously with my mentor, Mrs. Sarazin, who teaches the Word to me. Overall, what I learn, I’m going to take one step at a time, because patience is everything and, hopefully, I can apply all of this into my future life.
