It's not where you have been; but where you are going | My name is Kierre and I am 17 years old. I have been at Rawhide for two months. My favorite recreational activities are reading, writing books and theology.
I really enjoy working on the vehicles at the Pennau Prep Center with my job trainer, Mr. Tony. Working at the Prep Center enables me to work on my problem solving skills when completing more difficult jobs and has also taught me how to consistently work hard. Mr. Tony has shown me through his example how to lead and to never give up. My other job trainer, Ms. Suzan, is a wonderful person to learn from. She has taught me how to learn from my mistakes and never makes me feel like a failure. She helps me be the best person and employee that I can be.
I hope to be a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I’ve been working on my accuplacer, pre-college testing, and have enrolled at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, to begin classes in January of 2012. I would like to also go on a mission trip to further my faith in Jesus Christ. The main reason I’m succeeding at Rawhide is because of the wonderful mentoring I’ve received. I had a difficult time with setting goals and staying focused in the past. But with the help of the staff and teachers here, I have been able to set and obtain goals as well as grow spiritually and academically.
Ms. Connie, my academic instructor has been instrumental in my growth as a student. When I graduated from high school, math was my weakest academic area. After spending time with Ms. Connie, I have mastered more math than I thought possible. Another significant person for me at Rawhide is my housefather, Mr. Gary. He shows me how to deal with stress and adulthood.
I’m forever grateful to Rawhide. They have shown me that it isn’t where you are from, but where you want to go in life that counts.
