Student of the Month - December 2009 |
Road to Recovery | My name is Dylan, I am 17 years old and will be 18 in January. I’m from Waupaca County and have been at Rawhide for four months. My favorite things to do include cooking, reading the Bible, and hanging out with friends. Some of my favorite sports are basketball, football, disc golf, weightlifting, and running. I hold the Rawhide record for heaviest dead lift at 460 pounds. I enjoy reading many books; some of my favorites are Fallen Angels, Touching Spirit Bear, and A Heartbeat from Hell (the biography of Pastor Steve Mays).
Since coming to Rawhide, I have accepted Christ and became a Christian. Now my life means so much more, including telling others about the Gospel. I joined Building Spiritual Muscle and do a Bible study with my mentor Jess, who is a resident instructor in the Gillespie Youth Home.
My day starts out with the Work Experience Program. I work in the Pennau Prep Center (Students learn auto detailing, maintenance, evaluation, and basic office skills.) with my job trainers Tony B., Steve V., and Joe B. In the afternoon I attend school at Starr Academy and enjoy my classes with Mr. Riley and Mrs. Connie. I am working to get my high school diploma and will graduate next year from Starr Academy! My plans after leaving Rawhide include attending a private Christian college and majoring in psychology. I hope to be able to come back to Rawhide to work as a resident instructor.
I’m on the road to recovery.
~Dylan
