Student of the Month - April 2011

The Path to a Better Life

My name is Tyler and I am 16 years old. I’ve been at Rawhide for over two months through voluntary placement. My relationship with my family has improved since I’ve been at Rawhide. Even though I have only been here a short time, the staff at Rawhide has been very supportive in helping me to overcome my challenges.

The Aylward Home staff is always there to encourage and counsel me throughout my stay. Mr. Adam and Mr. Grant, resident instructors, are always available to talk with and I feel comfortable telling them almost anything. They have helped me to open my eyes to God and I feel myself getting closer and closer to Him.

The teachers have helped me do well at school; better than I ever thought possible. My favorite class is woodshop. I enjoy working with hands-on projects. My future goals include enlisting in the Navy and obtaining a job in the construction field.

Mr. Jim, my social worker, has probably been the most helpful. He has helped me to uncover and confront the parts of my life where I need to make changes. He has helped me process those difficulties in a way that I never could have on my own.

I would like to thank everyone for all they have done for me.
