Rawhide Announces Summer Adventure Camp for Boys At Risk of Not Graduating

May 1, 2009

Rawhide Boys Ranch will initiate a new adventure-based summer camp program for credit-deficient middle and high school male students. Five one-week sessions will be held throughout the summer, each focusing on a different age group, and will provide boys the opportunity to earn one physical education or elective credit towards graduation.

Rawhide’s Adventure Camp is designed to help credit-deficient teenage boys develop respect, responsibility, and self-control while enjoying the Flambeau River State Forest in northern Wisconsin. Young men will experience seven days of activities including canoeing, swimming, camping, cooking, climbing, fishing, hiking, life lessons, and more.

Rawhide has worked with boys for over 44 years to help them succeed in their communities. “We realize that there are boys out there who are at risk of not graduating or on the verge of getting into trouble who could benefit from a program like this,” stated Executive Director John Solberg. “Adventure Camp will allow them to earn a high school credit while they enjoy their summer on an adventure-based trip in the Wisconsin outdoors; its summer school with an edge,” he added.

Parents who are interested in enrolling their son in summer camp can learn more or find registration materials on Rawhide’s website, www.rawhide.org/camp or call toll-free 1-888-745-7445. The sessions being offered are as follows:

  • Session 1: June 13-June 20 – Junior High School boys, ages 13-14
  • Session 2: June 27-July 4 – Freshmen & Sophomore boys, ages 15-16
  • Session 3: July 11-July 18 – Junior & Senior boys, ages 17 and over
  • Session 4: July 25-August 1 – Freshmen & Sophomore boys, ages 15-16
