Bart & Cherry Starr Join Rawhide in Announcing Two New Outpatient Counseling Clinics Serving Appleton and the Fox Cities

April 7, 2009

Rawhide Boys Ranch will announce the opening of new prevention-based outpatient counseling services in Appleton and the Fox Cities on Tuesday, April 7, at 11:00 a.m., at the Rawhide Boys Ranch campus, where one of two clinic locations serving the Fox Cities is located. A second outpatient clinic location in Menasha will also be announced at this event. Bart and Cherry Starr (Rawhide’s Co-Founders) will participate in the ribbon cutting and be available to speak about Rawhide’s growth in prevention services.

An 11:30 a.m. luncheon and program will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony at Starr Academy, the on grounds high school at Rawhide. Over 250 are anticipated in attendance. The Rawhide campus is located 30 minutes west of Appleton at E7475 Rawhide Road, New London, WI.

Funding for this initiative was provided through a $50,000 matching grant from the John J. and Ethel D. Keller Fund, $25,000 from the Kimberly Clark Corporation, $20,000 from the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation, and $10,000 from the Oshkosh Corporation Foundation, Inc.

“Rawhide Youth and Family Counseling Services in the Fox Cities will provide youth and their families access to 44 years of knowledge in producing successful outcomes in teen and family issues,” stated John Solberg, Rawhide Executive Director. “For many years youth have come to Rawhide to receive services; now we can take this expertise and extend it to individual communities. Building on the success of our Outpatient Youth and Family Counseling in Green Bay, we are excited to offer these services in the Fox Cities, and thankful to our supporters for underwriting the startup costs,” continued Solberg.

The vision of Rawhide is to inspire and equip at-risk youth and their families, throughout the nation, to be profoundly changed, restored, and responsible. Rawhide remains committed to providing exceptional residential services. Outpatient counseling is viewed as an extension of a Rawhide continuum of care that already includes long-and short-term residential care, group home care, and licensed foster care for at-risk boys. Outpatient services now allow girls to access the program at Rawhide’s three clinics, located in Menasha, on the campus of Rawhide, and at 1039 West Mason Street, Green Bay. Outpatient clients will have access to Rawhide’s Equine Assisted Therapy (REAP) in an indoor riding arena, as well as a variety of other therapeutic settings on the Rawhide campus. “Our hope is that any youth with behavioral issues and their families will be able to access many of the experiential treatment environments available at Rawhide,” stated Wes Johnson, Rawhide outpatient therapist.

Located outside of New London, Wisconsin, Rawhide Boys Ranch emphasizes a faith-based residential environment as an alternative to juvenile corrections for court-referred and at-risk young men. In addition, Rawhide is pleased to provide services to youth and their families through community-based programs, like outpatient counseling.
