Rawhide’s Good, Bad & Ugly vehicle donation |
February 1, 2009 | Three best in class winners have been selected in response to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly statewide vehicle donation contest sponsored by Rawhide Boys Ranch. For four months Rawhide invited potential vehicle donors to give any vehicle from the worst wreck to their most prized car to compete for a top prize of a weekend water park getaway in Wisconsin Dells. The contest concluded on December 31, 2008 and after collecting all the cars and processing the photographs staff and youth at Rawhide voted on the best in class in each of the three categories.
The winners included a 1971 Cadillac DeVille as the best in class for Ugly car, a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim involved in a wreck as best in class for the bad car, and a 1975 Corvette Stingray as the Best car donated. The owners of the cars were all notified and their prizes and trophies will be delivered by Rawhide staff. The promotion informed the public that no car is too good, too bad, or too ugly to benefit the youth at Rawhide.
The contest was a big success and generated hundreds of donations that help provide support for a program that is changing the lives of Wisconsin’s troubled youth. “I think one of the main things we accomplished with the contest was educating the public about what types of vehicles we accept. It was important to us to be able to let people know that non-running and collision vehicles provide a benefit to the youth on the ranch as well as good running cars,” stated Tim Costello, Rawhide’s Vehicle Program Director.
Once the donation period for the contest concluded, all of the eligible vehicle photos were complied and sorted. Five finalists were chosen from each category and Rawhide staff and students were asked to vote for their favorite in each category. Rawhide provides convenient local drop off locations for vehicle donations and special arrangements can be made to pick up vehicles. Each donation provides a financial benefit to at-risk boys placed at Rawhide or served through our community counseling services. Vehicles also provide valuable work experience for youth at Rawhide.
Located outside of New London, Wisconsin, Rawhide Boys Ranch emphasizes a faith-based residential treatment program as an alternative to juvenile corrections for court-referred and at risk young men. In addition, Rawhide is pleased to provide services to youth and their families through community-based programs, such as outpatient counseling. Rawhide is largely supported by donations of cars, boats, campers, and financial gifts. Learn more about Rawhide by calling (920) 982-6100 or visiting the website at www.rawhide.org.
