Rawhide Provides Tornado Disaster Relief |
June 9, 2007 | On the evening of June 7, 2007, an unusual storm unleashed devastating tornados, ravaging parts of Langlade and Oconto Counties. The high winds created extensive damage and caused communities to seek outside assistance and emergency relief.
Young men in Rawhide’s About Face Community Service Corps responded to Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort near White Lake, Wisconsin, to assist with monumental cleanup efforts. The resort was heavily damaged by the tornado and littered with fallen trees and debris. Jeff Stump, Rawhide’s About Face Homes Manager stated, “The cadets are working hard. We are making sure to keep hydrated because there is no shade left with all of the downed trees. There was a lot of damage here.”
The corps was deployed to the area on Saturday and will remain until Wednesday. They are working in cooperation with the Antigo Fire Department in Langlade County. Utilizing their military-style training, the young men respond to disasters such as this in an effort to give back to area communities.
Rawhide’s About Face Community Service Corps is a 120-day intensive program in which court-ordered youth participate in intensive physical training, receive academic instruction, and perform community service projects through out the state.
