$30,000 Donation to Benefit Starr Academy’s Students

Young men at Rawhide Boys Ranch’s Starr Academy will be the beneficiaries of a substantial computer system upgrade at the school this summer. Through a $30,000 donation from the Wal-Mart Foundation, Starr Academy will enhance its computer technology for instruction, research and study.

A presentation marking the start of the computer system upgrade was conducted today at Starr Academy. Participating in the donation presentation was Wal-Mart Senior Manager of Public Affairs Lisa B. Nelson, Rawhide Executive Director John Solberg, and Rawhide Director of Education Dan Birr. Students at the school were also on hand.

“Education is the focal point of Wal-Mart’s community support and giving programs. Facilities with programs like those at Rawhide’s Starr Academy make us pleased and proud to be involved,” Ms. Nelson said.

“Wal-Mart’s donation will have an immediate and lasting impact. Teachers will use it in their lesson planning, presentations and research. Students will benefit in the development of job skills and knowledge of new programs. We greatly appreciate this support,” Mr. Birr said.
