Rawhide Students Meet USA Paralympics Basketball Players |
April 25, 2008 | The nationally renowned UW-Whitewater Wheelchair Basketball “Cornerstones for Success" Team visited Rawhide Starr Academy students last Friday, April 25, 2008.
“Cornerstones for Success" is a unique program that dispels myths about people who have a disability and shows students how they can be successful in and out of the classroom.
World-class athlete Matthew Scott, with his presentation - "tell it like it is" about life with a disability - had a powerful, positive impact on Rawhide students. The athletes shared successes they have experienced both on and off the basketball court and showed how these experiences have benefited their overall lifestyle. Rawhide’s Executive Director John Solberg stated, “The youth were inspired by these athletes who have overcome many obstacles and have persevered throughout their lives”.
The UW-Whitewater athletes have been national champs five out of the past 10 years, with players who will compete in the 2008 USA Paralympics, in Beijing. The program not only provided motivation to all the students and faculty, it was a CORNERSTONE in pointing out the road to SUCCESS.
