“Capital for a Day” Visit Comes to Rawhide |
May 18, 2006 | On Thursday, May 18, 2006, Rawhide students were addressed by Department of Corrections Secretary Matthew Frank and Department of Financial Institutions Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann. The cabinet secretaries visited Rawhide Boys Ranch in New London as part of Governor Jim Doyle’s “Capital for the Day” visits. Governor Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle, along with members of his Cabinet, visited Shawano and Waupaca Counties to meet with local citizens, government, and business leaders to make sure their views are heard in Madison.
Secretary Frank addressed the students at Starr Academy, Rawhide’s high school, to explain his role as Secretary of Corrections. He told them they were fortunate to be so well cared for at Rawhide and that they should make the most out of learning how to be successful.
Secretary Lorrie Keating spoke to the students about the importance of learning good personal financial management skills and how valuable those tools would be to their future.
Rawhide was honored to be selected for the “Capital for the Day” event. John Solberg, Rawhide’s Executive Director, said, “This was an outstanding opportunity for the young men at Rawhide to meet such high level government officials. Rawhide students benefit from positive experiences like these. They can see how their views are valued and know they have a voice in the government if they choose to participate.”
Located outside of New London, Wisconsin, Rawhide Boys Ranch emphasizes a faith-based traditional family environment and serves at-risk and court-referred young men.
