Elementary Students Reach Out to Young Men at Rawhide Boys Ranch

January 9, 2006

Rawhide Boys Ranch was pleasantly surprised to receive a Christmas gift from a 3rd Grade Class from St. Mary’s School in Greenville, Wisconsin.

Each year the parents in Katie Ernst’s classroom take up a monetary collection, to be presented to her on the last day of school before Christmas break. The money is generally used for educational tools needed by her as their teacher. This year Mrs. Ernst asked that the money collected be donated to Rawhide Boys Ranch.

Mrs. Ernst’s husband assisted in building one of the youth homes at Rawhide, and their son, Thomas, was the youngest donor in 2001 to contribute to Rawhide’s Searl Stable and Sheldon Riding Arena. The stable and arena were built to replace the former stable, which Rawhide lost to a devastating fire on December 24, 1999.

“I took a tour at Rawhide with my family and was greatly impressed with the work Rawhide does for the young men,” Mrs. Ernst stated. “I felt that the money that was collected could go to better use being donated to the work at Rawhide.”

St. Mary’s School has also selected Rawhide Boys Ranch as the primary beneficiary for their “We Care” Program during the month of March. In this program, non-profit organizations and needy families are selected each month, and students and families work together collecting various items needed.

Located outside of New London, Wisconsin, Rawhide Boys Ranch emphasizes a faith-based traditional family environment and serves at-risk and court-referred young men. Their mission is to inspire and equip at-risk teenage boys to become responsible young men through family-centered care, treatment, and education. Rawhide is largely supported by donations of cars, boats, campers, and financial gifts. Learn more about Rawhide by calling (920) 982-6100 or visiting the website at www.rawhide.org.
