Hundreds Support Rawhide at Car Show

July 23, 2006

On Saturday, July 22, Rawhide Boys Ranch hosted its second annual “Ridin’ for Rawhide” Car Show and Fish Fry. The beautiful weather brought out hundreds of visitors to view a wide variety of vehicles, from vintage classics to sleek contemporary models. The Valley Vettes Car Club of the Fox Valley co-sponsored the event on the Rawhide campus which proved to be an outstanding venue for hosting a car show.

The following received the top votes based on peer judging: LONGEST TRAIL AWARD & FIRST IN CLASS (Post War 1945-1963) - Steven & Colleen Green, Elroy; FIRST IN CLASS/FOREIGN - Richard W. Ely, New London; FIRST IN CLASS/SPECIAL INTEREST - Susie Meiers, New London; FIRST IN CLASS/HOT RODS - Dan Kortbein, Larsen; FIRST IN CLASS/CORVETTES - Diane Penney, New London; FIRST IN CLASS/TRUCKS - Ron Messman, Mishicot; FIRST IN CLASS/LATE MODEL - Jody Kortbein, Larsen; and FIRST IN CLASS/MUSCLE CARS & PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD - Greg Juedes, Oshkosh.

In the Sip of Luxury fundraiser a specially marked imitation pearl was placed in a glass of sparkling grape juice. A collective toast to Rawhide by the sip of luxury participants yielded the winner. Mary Reis, from Two Rivers, was the recipient of a 6 x 6.5 mm White Isle 18” pearl necklace and matching earrings donated by Tennie’s Jewelry of Appleton.

The day’s events included a car show, silent auction, sip of luxury, poker run, tours, food and snacks, door prizes, and fish fry. The day concluded with an award ceremony for car show entrants. Over 350 guests attended the Rawhide fish fry held after the event. All proceeds from the car show and fish fry went to benefit tuition assistance for young men enrolled in the Academy program at Rawhide.
