In 1965 John and Jan Gillespie founded Rawhide Boys Ranch with the vision of helping troubled and at risk teenage boys. They moved to a 714-acre parcel of property along the scenic Wolf River, just 10 minutes south of New London, Wisconsin. That same year eight young men joined them and their dream became a reality.
Thanks to the tremendous support of NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Bart Starr and his wife Cherry, Rawhide gained credibility and financial support from hundreds of individuals, families, corporations, and foundations throughout Wisconsin and the nation.
Over the next 40 years Rawhide Boys Ranch grew from one youth home to seven homes; and hundreds of troubled young men received a unique blend of academics, work experience, and moral training to help them become productive members of their communities.
Individual financial gifts and the sale of donated vehicles and other items provide a critical source of funds to Rawhide allowing us to provide a loving family environment, counseling, education, extra-curricular activities, and valuable work experience training that at risk young men need to get their lives back on track. |
